Stephen Ministry is a ministry of Christ UMC in which trained and supervised church members (Stephen Ministers) provide one-to-one Christian care to individuals facing transitions in their lives. Stephen Ministers are caring friends who listen, understand, accept, and pray for and with care receivers who are working through a crisis or a tough time. All referrals and Stephen Minister assignments are completely confidential.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Stephen Ministry is a care giving ministry available to our church members and community free of charge.
Stephen Ministry began in 1975 when Dr. Kenneth C. Haugk, a pastor and clinical psychologist in St. Louis, Missouri, trained church members to help meet the needs for care in his congregation. The ministry was so successful that other congregations became interested, and Haugk founded the Stephen Ministries organization. Since then, more than 10,000 congregations have become involved in Stephen Ministry. They represent over 150 Christian denominations and come from all 50 states, 10 Canadian province, and 24 other countries. It is estimated that more than one million people have received the formal care of a Stephen Minister, and millions more have been touched in an informal way.
Stephen Ministry has been a ministry of Christ UMC since 1992, and since that time many people have received the formal care of a Stephen Minister.
